It is usually hard to imagine something that cost $2000 could sound anywhere close to a competing product costing two or three times more but the LS-3B is one such product. I’m sure Audio Research didn’t plan to release such a product in the LS-3B but through some first rate design, it inevitably became one. So good was the LS-3B that it produced a mid-range that was warm and tube like without having a single tube on board. It had a transparency and detail you would have expected from a preamp that cost more than $5,000 instead of a bargain basement $2,000 MSRP solid state preamp. This is a preamp that will not disappoint. Guaranteed. Needless to say, it will not turn a $100 amp, $30 CD player and $80 speaker you get from Best Buy into a $10,000 sounding system. But pair it sensibly and you will be richly rewarded. This is the balanced output version.
Cosmetically, the preamp is in great shape. Minor scuff marks from use but nothing major. One owner since new. We don’t have the original box but will securely pack this for safe shipping.
