Up for grabs is this very rare offering of an Audio Research 40th Anniversary Edition reference preamp. This is the preamp Jonathan Valin of Absolute Sound magazine said was the most holographic preamp he has ever heard. With such strong statements, there is really nothing much more we can say except it is with a doubt, the best preamp that ever walked out of Audio Research’s design studio. We have always like their Reference 2, Reference 3 and even the Reference 5, which we had considered it the best in its time to only have Audio Research changed our mindset on what is the BEST. If we have to choose a preamp that will have to be our last preamp ever, this would be it.
Cosmetically, the preamp is in great shape. Very minor scuff marks here and there but barely noticeable. This had one previous owner who had it partnered with a pair of Reference 210 (KT-120) monoblocks (also for sale in a separate listing). We don’t have the original box but have two Audio Research boxes that it can be packed in. They are a bit beat up so they will be triple boxed up. Original remote and copy of manual is included.
