Hales may have been an under the radar speaker manufacturer from California, but it did not miss getting noticed by Stereophile magazine who proclaimed it as amongst the best sounding speakers up to $5,000. These are serious three-way speakers and for under $800, its hefty demeanor will literally crush any competition out there for the same amount of money. Forget those two-way speakers (both tower and bookshelves) that are so bountiful for under $800. If you want a large scale sound, big powerful bass, rich mids and detailed highs, the Revelation Three will deliver all these. Each speaker comprises of one 1″ aluminum tweeter, one 4.5″ polypropylene mid and one 10″ polypropylene woofer for maximum effect between 33 Hz to 26 KHz. These are current hungry speakers with a nominal impedance of 4 ohm and a sensitivity of 86 dB and they love loads of power. We drove them with 150W and they easily filled our room with an almost concert like music atmosphere. Put in a live recording CD and you could almost feel like you are in that concert venue. Put on some vocals and you get a larger than life imaging right in your room. Speakers are fairly large at 40″ tall, 11″ wide and 14″ deep. Although this is a sealed-box design, we recommend giving them at least 2 feet of space from any walls to let them project out that soundstage without an inhibitions.
Cosmetically, the speakers looks fair. Some scuff marks/nicks here and there but all age and use appropriate. We don’t have the grille cover which is essentially a grille cover with a rubber band along its edges where you slip it over (like a fitted bedsheet). We don’t have the original packaging so local pickup from our store or they will have to ship freight.
