The Arcam Solo Music is an artfully package unit. Its designed for the Audiophile that wants to enjoy a quality sound system but don’t want to deal with a multi box system with cables inter-joining all the components in that system. There are two Solo versions – one for music and one for movie (where it will play DVDs and drive a multi channel speaker setup). This one is here is the Music version. On CD playback, it has the unmistakable “Arcam” sound. Warm, nicely detailed and smooth. Compared to the Rotel RCX-1500 that we also have for sale, it does not have the “modern” amenities like USB input, digital amp section, Bluetooth etc. The Arcam Solo is more conventional – CD playback and an integrated amp with tuner function. The Rotel is more powerful – 100W vs 50W on the Arcam. Preference of one over the other would be tough (in our opinion) as it all boils down to individual preference and the speakers they will be paired to and the features the new owner is seeking for. But if you want a simple to use and setup unit, an efficient pair of speakers, don’t need any of the “modern” frills and just want to enjoy your redbook CDs, you won’t wrong with this Arcam Solo. For under $400, you are getting a CD player and integrated amp in one convenient package. No messy interconnect cables between components. Just the speaker cables and speakers to get the ball rolling.
Cosmetically, the unit looks really good. A few hairline scratches on the right side panel and minor scuff marks here and there. We have the original remote and box.
